Before launching the Waggle Dance campaign on Kickstarter, we set the 1st year students on the ED Creative Media Production course (ages 16-18) at Plymouth College of Art a live brief to learn how to play Waggle Dance and to make a video explaining how to play the game. Very few of these guys had played a modern boardgame before, so we thought it might be interesting to expand their ideas of what this type of gaming entails.
Each group was given a prototype set (hence the videos don't reflect subsequent changes and developments in artwork and game wording) and they had to finish the whole project in 1 day, so it was quite a tricky challenge!! We had 8 entries into the competition (40 students altogether) and these were shortlisted to a final 4 videos for all the Kickstarter backers to vote on.
The winning group received free copies of the finished Waggle Dance game, got to appear as Illustrated Wagglers on the celebration rules poster and were invited back to make an official How To Play video for Grublin Games in the autumn.
Well, the competition was close, but a winning group were chosen and you can see their video here!
